PaperWork Djvu server compresses all documents in image format, and convert them in Djvu format without degrading. As a matter of fact, TIFF CCITT G4 file format, which has become standard in document archive systems, is a higher version of G3 format developed for fax machines. TIFF G4 developed a long time ago is only used for black and white documents. A document in A4 size, scanned in 300 Dpi is calculated as about 50K. Depending on intensity on the paper, it may change from 30K to 70K. However, DjVu supports both documents in colors, and black and white documents. A document in A4 size, scanned in 300 Dpi is calculated as about 10K. This is 1/5 of a TIFF G4 standard.
According to this calculation, An organization having 5 billion a4 size documents will need a disk system of 250GB capacity, and a backup unit suitable for this main storage. Whereas, necessary disk space drops down as low as 50 GB thanks to djvu technology.
Advantages of DjVu Supported PaperWork
- Decreases disk need in server
- Increases Network performance
- Shortens backup time
